We have the ‘biggest little parade in the state’ right here in Allenspark! We have lots of horses, firetrucks, tractors … and just about anything else anyone wants to have.
This year started out with the horses from our neighbor, Peaceful Valley Dude Ranch.
The band actually came pretty early on this time, to the disappointment of my horses, who generally like to ‘dance’ to the music – and we were too far away to hear it well.
Another neighbor, Meeker Park Lodge, with their horses. Bill noticed the lead horse has “US Mustang” painted on his neck!
Another neighbor raises llamas, who do a LOT of work around here, so they were strutting their stuff.
What’s a good mountain community without their tractors – old and new?
This is Allenspark’s 150th birthday, so the community has a line-up of fun things to do, including: a history trail ride on July 13, which will take you on a horseback ride up around the old mining area in what is now Roosevelt National Forest; a town picnic on July 26 to include a pot luck at the Old Gallery followed by an ice cream social at the Allenspark Community Church; and the Hilltop Bazaar at the Kelly House on August 2. Come on up and enjoy the fun!
Of course, we had the local Allenspark Livery well represented, with an assortment of costumes from cowboys from various countries to hula dancers to a fairy maiden riding a unicorn. We are not lacking in imagination here.
And finally, my granddaughter and I on our trusty Mustangs – who seem to LOVE a parade.
