Summer arrived in a flash this year, and it feels like it’s already flying by! This season has been a delightful blur of excitement, unexpected busyness, gorgeous weather, and a bit of beautiful chaos. Beyond our usual daily routines, we’ve tackled some significant projects around the lodge.
We gave the Sun Room a complete revamp and remodeled a couple of showers, transforming these spaces into even more inviting areas for our guests. A good deal of maintenance has also been dealt with, including essential electrical and plumbing upgrades, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Our youngest son, Thomas, has been an incredible help throughout all of this. He’s really embraced the work and is even considering continuing to run the lodge operation in the future!
A big part of this summer’s adventure began in April when Thomas and Emily (our future daughter-in-law) moved into the lodge. Their arrival brought a whole new set of exciting tasks! I helped them get their house ready to be a rental property and worked on incorporating some of their belongings into the lodge’s existing space. It was a fantastic opportunity to re-imagine and optimize some of our common areas. We finally replaced a seating set that Bill and I had been meaning to remove for ages (it always seemed to fall to the bottom of our to-do list!) with a much cozier arrangement. Now, we even have two grandfather clocks chiming the hour, adding a lovely, classic touch to the lodge.
Amidst all the indoor projects, I’ve also managed to spend some quality time in the garden. I’ve been busy in the backyard and even started a new rock garden west of the lodge. Our vintage garden section is flourishing, and we have flowers galore adding vibrant pops of color everywhere. The firepit has become a favorite evening spot, perfect for unwinding (weather permitting, of course!). We’ve even been making s’mores – a classic summer treat!
I sincerely apologize for the lack of updates here on the blog. I’ve been a bit lax, focusing more on maintaining our Facebook presence. But I’m back, and I promise to share much more with you soon, especially regarding upcoming group events and news!
