FAQS about the Inn
Welcome to our cozy B&B! Here are some answers to frequently asked questions to help you feel right at home.
The lodge was built by teenagers in 1933 and 1934, who were paid a dollar a day. The teenagers were supervised by their shop teacher and hand-peeled all the logs for the building, which came from trees killed in a forest fire.
The Allenspark Lodge B&B, originally known as the Isles Trading Post, was constructed for lodging with a full-service restaurant and a grocery store. The trading post also included a gas station and ten cabins. The grocery store eventually became a retail store, which now serves as the library and Owl Cove. In the mid-70s, a larger room was added to the structure to expand the store.
The lodge was originally built with 22 bedrooms7. Some walls have been removed to create larger rooms, so we now have 16 bedrooms in total, with 11 available for guests.
Yes, the lodge is my home. I have a personal bedroom, and I rent out the other eleven bedrooms. The entire first floor, with the exception of the kitchen, is shared space for everyone to enjoy.
Breakfast always includes an egg dish, potatoes, a breakfast meat, a fruit dish or fresh fruit, and a freshly baked bread like pancakes, waffles, or scones. We’re happy to accommodate any dietary needs, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free. We just ask that you let us know about any allergies or food requirements upon your arrival. To keep things simple, meat is always kept separate and not cooked into any of the dishes.
Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. We ring a brass bell when the food is on the table. It’s served family-style, with platters passed around. Everyone joins us for breakfast at a single seating, which has become our favorite part of the day.
Our lodge dog is a friendly Australian Cattle Dog named Reba. She loves to be petted, which is her treat since she is not allowed to have any food treats. Reba was born in November 2012, and we adopted her when she was two years old.
I have two Mustangs that live in a corral across the road from the lodge. I feed them after breakfast, and you are welcome to join me to meet them.
We do not have a public hot tub for guests. The one we used to have stopped working several years ago, and we were unable to find replacement parts.
Coffee is always made fresh at 6:30 in the morning, but it can be available 24 hours a day upon request.
We have a normal-sized refrigerator in the Sun Room for guests to use. There are no refrigerators in the guest rooms.
There are no cell towers nearby, so there is no cell service. You can use our free Wi-Fi for phone calls if you enable Wi-Fi calling. The password for the Wi-Fi is on the front cover of the notebook in your room.
We have two microwaves available for guests. One is in the Sun Room near the refrigerator, and the other is in the Dining Room at the end of the bar.
We have hair dryers available for guests upon request.
We don’t give out keys to the guest rooms because they are all the same skeleton key. Back in the 1930s, the purpose of the key was simply to keep strangers from the street out of the rooms. You can lock the doors from the inside, and we are happy to let you use the large safe in the office for your valuables.
You are welcome to be on the first floor at any time. A limited number of lights are kept on for safety. We just ask that you are considerate of people who are sleeping, as the lodge’s logs carry sound very well.
