So people always ask if we ever have moose close to the Lodge. Yep! Last incident was just the night of Sept. 9th. Woke up the next morning to a ‘destroyed’ back yard. Moose have awful eyesight so it was easy to imagine how this happened on a very dark night. A mom and young moose had been spotted by neighbors on two sides of me, so assuming these were the culprits. They must have wandered through and not seen any of the furniture. A guess would be that one or both stepped on a chair or ran into one of the benches or firepit. Then they trampled everything trying to get away. Notice the firepit is off its base, one of the bench seats is upside down near the deck – a long way from where it started, a couple plastic chairs were broken, and the archway/arbor is tilted at a bad angle.
That same night, after friends had helped set things back up, another moose came through (maybe the bull?) and stomped some more and totally took down the arbor. Destroyed it so no more arbor. Assuming it took a bull’s huge rack to smash the arbor the second time. Left behind a huge pile of moose scat so we wouldn’t blame the wrong animal. They are so thoughtful.
